Clarinet & Saxophone
Michael Perrett is a musician based in Manchester. He plays clarinet and saxophone.
A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, he also had a brief period of private study in Canada with the clarinettist and composer Lori Freedman.
He has enjoyed collaborating with some of the UK’s leading musicians and has contributed to recordings issued by Confront Recordings (UK) and Creative Sources (Portugal) as well as numerous self-releases. He has been broadcast on the BBC, NTS and Resonance FM.
With guitarist David Birchall and pianist/accordion player Adam Fairhall, he plays with the band
Minimum Wage Immanence Unit who attempt to find the meeting point between drone, free
improvisation and half-remembered folksong. Writing in The Wire, Daniel Spicer described their debut CD as "sounding as if Terry Riley had gently commandeered the Bitches Brew sessions before nodding off in the corner”.
He is an experienced performer in a range of settings and genres having toured both nationally and internationally. He is a confident sight-reader as well as experienced improvisor. For bookings please contact me on the email address below.
